 Grade 8 : Rotation 4

 1) “Photoshop Collage TRAVEL Project”  After review of prior Photoshop knowledge. Students will have the chance to express themselves through imagery and design by cutting out many images to make a whole image that conveys a passionate / inspiring message about the students favorite state, city, or country they would like to visit or tell people to visit.

One project from each 8th grade class will be selected for districts!

Grade 6 & 7: Rotation 4

 1) “Photoshop Collage Project”  My students will be learning about how to make a collage in Adobe Photoshop. Students will have the chance to express themselves through imagery and design by cutting out many images to make a whole image that conveys a message. The message students are conveying is their passion for science, technology, engineering, math, design, music,pe, drama. They will lean about photoshop and the many tools they will need to accomplish their goal.

One project from each 7th and 8th grade class will be selected and published for next years planner cover. I will be selecting the design that best fits the criteria for an awesome STEM collage!

Grade 6: Rotation 3: 11/29/16 – 1/18/17

Grade 6: Rotation 3

 1) “Humming Bird Illustration”  Using  fine art skills, students will create a fun yet complex humming bird illustration. This design not only explores color with watercolor and colored pencils it requires attention to detail to create this beautiful micro bird. Emphasizing how to study their subject allows students the chance to create a colorfully detailed design that will build confidence and develop their fine art skills as well as attention to detail in their art work!

Grade 7: Rotation 3

 1) “Oil Pastel still life Project”  Creating an oil pastel design requires  layering of pastels, extreme color and lighting  knowledge, and patience. Students will be leaning about these three elements when designing their oil pastel project. Together we will be using an apple as our subject. We will discover how light and shadow create highlights, low lights and mid tones when creating an oil pastel of their apple. All sorts of awesome pastel techniques used in this project!

Grade 8: Rotation 3

 1) “Oil Pastel still life Project”  8th Grade students are exploring oil pastels as well. Differentiating between grades my 8th graders will have more control of their subject matter. This allows ownership of their design and more creativity when selecting their idea. Creating an oil pastel design requires  layering of pastels, extreme color and lighting  knowledge, and patience. Grade 6: Rotation 2: 10/24/16 – 11/18/16

Grade 6: Rotation 2

 1) “Art Rage Fine Arts in Graphic Design”  With only 4 days of student interaction my goal is simply to introduce Art Rage studio to my students and have the students follow a landscape tutorial of a sunset sea scape design. Students will learn how to choose and mix colors using virtual oil paints. Students will apply light and  shadow to their design by mixing colors correctly and applying them onto their canvas.

Demonstration & Learning Objective: Teacher will demonstrate how to use many tools in Art Rage Studio for the student to help them accomplish their goal. Such tools as  canvas set up, zooming, applying color, oil paints, pallet knife, color wheel selection tool, and paint tube will help them understand and be able to navigate through the technical side of this program. Students will then apply all their new technical skills to create their very own sea scape painting like in the tutorial below.

Grade 7: Rotation 2

 1) “Logo Design in Adobe Illustrator”  With only 4 days of student interaction my goal is simply to introduce Logo Design to my students. I will be demonstrating how to create a simple logo design in Adobe Illustrator.  Students will learn how to select a font, color and shapes that will best describe their personality for their logo. Students will realize that designing a logo uses not only technical skills but a designers eye to create a mark that represents them as an individual.

Demonstration & Learning Objective: Teacher will demonstrate how to use many tools in Adobe Illustrator for the student to help accomplish their goal. Such tools as pathfinder, selection tool, transparency tool, color swatches, typing tools, shape tools and a few more will help my students accomplish their goals of creating a clean well presented logo by the end of the week.

Grade 8: Rotation 2

 1) “Pop Art Poster Design in Graphic Design” Students will create a Pop Art design inspired by Andy Warhol using Adobe Illustrator.

Demonstration & Learning Objective:Teacher will demonstrate how to use many tools in Adobe Illustrator for the student to help accomplish their goal. Such tools as pathfinder, selection tool, transparency tool, color swatches, typing tools, shape tools and a few more will help my students accomplish their goals of creating a clean well presented Pop Art poster by the end of the week. Students will need to understand and perform a clean composition and replicate the pop art movement in their work.

Grade 6: Rotation 1

 1) “Classical art” Learning Objective: Students identify the elements and principles while observing the characteristics of ancient Greece & Rome in the Parthenon and Pantheon. (Looking for Balance and symmetry) Students are able to identify and describe the Classical Order.

Demonstration: Teacher uses smart board to identify and demonstrate how these elements are important in the development and history of the Roman culture of design. Students will be demonstrated on effective composition, space, balance and symmetry when composing their own design.

2) Project Objective: Students apply new one point perspective techniques while designing their own pencil illustration with a classical interpretation. Teacher will perform guided instruction with class as we discover how to create a one point perspective landscape design. We will also discuss:

Proportion and Perspective. Proportion is the size of one picture element in relation to the size of another. In other words Proportion is what dictates that, in humans, legs are longer than arms, the middle finger is longer than the pointer finger, and the nose is the same length as the width of the eye. If proportion is incorrect in a drawing it “doesn’t look right”.Perspective is the illusion that further away things appear smaller. To make something appear to be farther away from the viewer than the picture plane, draw it smaller than the object that is closer to the picture plane. I’ve put proportion and perspective together as one drawing element because they both use each other to work. If one is incorrect, chances are the other is also incorrect.

Grade 7: Rotation 1: 8/22/16 – 9/16/16

 1) “Crazy Drawing Project” Learning Objective: Students identify the elements and principles while building their drawing skills using weighted thick and thin lines. The nature of this design is for the student to be able to express ones self on paper with ideas that explore their life through design. This is a good intro project to refine and build upon learned skills.

Demonstration: Teacher will demonstrate how to keep a steady hand while creating expressive thick and thin black sharpie lines. Students will then practice technique on their own.

 1) “Day of the Dead Skull Design” Learning Objective: Students identify the elements and principles while building their drawing skills using weighted thick and thin lines. Understanding effective patterns and symmetry are other vital keys in mastering these fun skull designs.

“Day of the Dead” : An annual celebration to honor the spirits of the dead, observed inMexico and other Latin American countries on November 1 and 2,concurrently with All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day.
